The hottest place to chill in Kampala!  We have been catering for independent travellers, families, students, backpackers and volunteers looking for excellent value for money for over 20 years.  We have now been 6 years at our fantastic purpose-built site  just outside the hustle and bustle of down town Kampala.  We are situated right by the shores of Lake Victoria near Port Bell, with beautiful views across the wetlands and over the world’s largest tropical lake.    Set in 5 leafy and tranquil acres in one of Kampala’s safest suburbs, we cater for self-campers and also offer dorm beds and private rooms – with or without en suite facilities.  We even have a rather lovely fully self-catered flat with private kitchen, bathroom & satellite TV.

We are not a fancy hotel with fluffy dressing gowns, waiters or room service but we do provide really great facilities …and at really great prices:

  • 16m swimming pool and baby pool, free of charge for our guests.  Beautiful gardens with views out to Lake Victoria
  • Free wifi throughout. Communal computers for use free of charge.
  • 24 hour reception and security
  • Fully stocked bar – inside sports bar and outside pool bar with draught beer. Roof top beer terrace & lots of communal areas to kick back and relax
  • A la carte restaurant serving delicious meals all day.  Mouth-watering pizza cooked fresh daily from our poolside wood-fired pizza oven.  Sunday BBQ specials.
  • Safari & tour reservations office - offering a variety of regular scheduled tours to Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Kidepo Valley National Parks. We can also organise customised tours to other parks and areas of Uganda to suit any budget
  • Lake Victoria sunset boat cruises departure point
  • Satellite TV for sports, news updates & movies
  • Meeting room for groups or study
  • Pool table, darts, table tennis & table football. Books swap & board games
  • Self-catering laundry and kitchen block (with communal fridge & gas cooker)
  • Back up gennie and inverter - we are never in the dark here!
  • Free bag storage whilst here or on safari. Free lockers for valuables.

Solo Traveller

I stayed at Red Chilli Hideaway for a month and a half and enjoyed it. Because of the location its nice and peaceful- an excellent break from the hustle and bustle of downtown Kampala. The room I stayed in was basic but had everything I needed. Two plug-ins for charging, a big ceiling fan and a mosquito net.  I chose a room without my own toilet, but the shared bathrooms were nice and cleaned every day, so that was no problem.
They have a restaurant with quite a lot of options both for breakfast lunch and dinner, a pool, bar, and a volleyball court.
The hostel is not in the center of town ( hence the peacefulness), so traveling into city center might take some time- about 30 mins give or take, but they have a free shuttle leaving several times a day!
The staff is helpful and knowledgable and always ready to advise on what to do, see or pay.
In my opinion it’s worth the money, and next time I’m in Uganda, im staying there!

We stayed at red chilli several times when we were in Kampala and it’s a bit like coming home to us.
It’s a relaxed and nice place to hang out after a busy day. Red chilli is also a nice place to chill, swim, or just hang out for a while, it’s my favourite in Uganda.
