The hottest place to chill in Murchison! Red Chilli is superbly located to explore the largest National Park in Uganda. Situated in the heart of the park at Paraa, our camp is just 500m from the ferry, where all vehicles cross for Nile Delta game drives and from where boats depart for Falls & Delta trips. Sometimes you don’t even have to leave the camp for game viewing though – hippo and warthog are regular visitors to the camp too!
We offer the only low to mid budget accommodation in the park, in furnished safari tents and bandas (small individual houses) with public or private bathrooms, as well as the only camping facilities with modern showers, toilets, cooking area and security lighting.
We are not a posh lodge with three course meals and all the trimmings but we do provide an authentic safari experience…and at a really great price!
For only $8 per person, per night, you can pitch your own tent in the bush and enjoy a truly unforgettable experience at Red Chilli Rest Camp.
Sleeps 2 in twin beds with linen. Bathrooms are situated in ablution buildings around the camp.
Sleeps 2 in two single beds with linen, mosquito nets and electric fan and light. Bathrooms are situated in ablution buildings around the camp.
We offer twin and triple en suite bandas for $55 and $65 respectively. Includes a standard double and single bed with linen, towels, mosquito nets, electric fan, lights and sockets, as well as solar hot water.
We offer family bandas with two bedrooms, sitting room and veranda for $90 for up to 4 occupants, and $100 for up to 5 occupants. Contains one standard double and three single beds with linen, towels, mosquito nets, electric fan, lights and sockets, as well as solar hot water.
Secluded Eco-Banda with large family room for $85 (up to 2 occupants and $10 per person thereafter)
Two bandas have one double bed and 1 single bed, and the other two bandas have a double bed, single bed and bunk beds. All bandas have linen, mosquito nets, solar fans, lights and USB sockets, as well as solar hot water.
Whilst staying at Red Chilli Rest Camp, why not book our Giraffe for a game drive? Price for a 4 hour game drive is $140 for the vehicle and includes driver, ferry crossing fees and Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide.
Please remember Murchison is a malarial area, so please take appropriate malaria prophylaxis!
We look forward to welcoming you and ensuring that you have the very best safari experience!
By public transport
You can catch a bus daily from Kampala to either Pakwach or Masindi, but there is no public transport from here into the park (approx 80Km). We can arrange a pickup for you on request – please contact us for pricing and availability.
From Kampala, take the Gulu highway as far as Kafu bridge where you turn left to Masindi. On reaching Masindi, turn right opposite the Shell garage onto the dirt road towards Murchison Falls National Park. After around 10 to 15 km, turn left (signposted) and continue to the Park gate. From there it is approximately 60km to our camp, signposted from the main road, just before you reach the river.
You can also enter the park from Tangi or Wankwar gates on the North bank of the Nile, but please bear in mind the ferry crossing times are strictly adhered to:
Ferry Crossing Times
07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 11:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 and 19:00
Park Entry 07:00 until 19:00. (Please refer here for Uganda Wildlife park entry fees)
I have stayed several times at Red Chilli Murchison Falls and it never disappoints. Always a great welcome from a lively and cheerful team. In fact the service is always so friendly and personalised that it is more like being adopted than staying in a camp!
The food is always excellent, great packed lunches and good strong coffee (which is a MUST on safari). Plenty of choice and several vegetarian/vegan options.
Rooms and tents are comfortable and clean – do not expect luxury as this is not a luxury camp! But everything is as good as promised and, in many ways, even a great deal better.
I will be back. Again and again! Thanks Murchison team for yet another great stay. Everything was perfect and we saw loads of game and great birds.
