Red Chilli Hideaway | Kampala
06:30 am
The Red Chilli vehicle leaves Red Chilli at 6:30 am in the morning – if you would like to take a packed breakfast with you, please order it with the Red Chilli kitchen by 9.00 pm the night before.
On arrival in Jinja, you will meet up with your fellow rafters and guides while enjoying a tea or coffee, along with a delicious rafting breakfast. Rafting is a physical activity so make sure you eat up!
After an initial briefing, you will be fitted out with life jackets and helmets before heading off down river to the start point. Once down at the river’s edge, you will receive a detailed safety briefing, before launching into the river on a 20 metre water slide for some practical instruction.
As the river meanders through beautiful scenery, you will guide the rafts into the mighty challenges of some of the biggest and safest Grade 5 white water rafting in the world. Five major rapids are rafted and a 6th rapid is surfed on river boards – all selected to maximise your safety and fun.
You will stop before all Grade 4 and 5 rapids so that your guide can explain to you the planned route through. If at anytime you feel you would prefer to join the safety boat or where possible, walk around and then rejoin the raft, this is absolutely fine. Calm stretches of water separate the rapids – perfect for getting your breath back, taking a swim and enjoying the scenery.
At midday day you will pull up to a floating double-storey deck anchored amongst pristine islands and rapids for a delicious freshly made ‘build your own sub lunch’. Shredded beef, chicken, cheese, avocado, tomato, humus and pickles make up some of the fillings. Once you have eaten your fill and sated your thirst you will head off to surf ‘Superhole’.
Surfing ‘Superhole’ is unique to Nile River Explorers and their private walkway allows easy access to and from the river with your river board. Alternatively, take a leap off the boat into clear warm water or just hang out and absorb the raw beauty of the Nile.
You will then head down river to your final rapids of the day: the infamous Grade 5 ‘Bad Place’ and the mighty ‘Vengeance’. Cold beers, sodas and snacks are a welcome reward as you pack up the gear for the drive back to Kampala.
You will then return to Red Chilli by shuttle, and should be back at round 7pm, depending on traffic.
